New York Giants’ Eli Manning Should Be Candidate For Comeback Player of the Year

Very quietly, New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning has had one of the best seasons of his career. He has 30 touchdowns, 14 interceptions and passed for 4,410 yards. Manning hasn’t put up numbers like that since his Super Bowl winning season. He also shockingly has thrown fewer interceptions than his brother Peyton Manning.

A case should be made for Manning to win the Comeback Player of the Year award. Just because the team around him is poor, doesn’t mean that he hasn’t preformed well. Compared to previous years, Manning is playing spectacular. Last season Manning had 18 touchdowns, 27 interceptions and a 57.5 percent completion rate. He jumped from 57.5 percent to 63.1 percent this year, his highest completion percentage ever.

Manning accomplished all of this in one season with a brand-new offense. He played in a new offensive style for the first time in his career this year, and it was very difficult for him to relearn everything. Not to mention that he lost Victor Cruz and had an extremely shaky offensive line all season long. Manning preformed at his absolute best and will most likely get the contract extension he deserves.

The only players would could beat out Manning in this competition are Philip Rivers and Arian Foster. Both players have had fantastic seasons, following very questionable play the previous year. Rivers or Foster may get the nod over Manning, because both their teams have winning records despite having a better overall supporting cast.

There have been no reports of Manning being even in talks for the award, but the NFL is very unpredictable. It would be no surprise if it came out of nowhere that Manning took the honor.
