The Washington Redskins are probably glad to hear that a new year has begun. The Redskins had a tumultuous and forgetful 2014 which resulted in a 4-12 record. However, there is still hope for next year to be better, as Washington has a few young players who showed improvement and promise despite the team's poor overall performance. Here are the bright spots and building blocks for the future in the nation's capital.

Reed's shown flashes of excitement in his two-year career with the Redskins, but his biggest problem has been staying healthy. He missed five games this season with a hamstring injury and seven in '13 due to a concussion. When he's on the field, he surprises defenders with a unique combination of size and speed that's valuable at the tight end position.

As the Redskins' backup running back, Helu Jr. provides a nice change from Alfred Morris with his elusiveness and pass catching ability. He averaged 5.4 yards per carry and 11.4 yards per reception last season with Washington. The Redskins' offense would be wise to utilize his playmaking abilities more in the future.

I know that RGIII has suffered through nothing but injuries and failure since his rookie season, but I still believe he can be a good quarterback in the NFL. He's heading into only his fourth year in the league and is still learning how to play the position at its highest level. However, he must continue to develop as a pocket passer if he wants to be successful.

In his first full season taking over for London Fletcher at middle linebacker, Robinson emerged as one of the Redskins' leaders on defense. He led Washington with 109 combined tackles in 13 games last season. Robinson has a bright future in D.C. as a player who the organization can build around.

Breeland was thrown into the fire during his rookie season due to DeAngelo Hall's Achilles injury. Though he struggled at times with penalties, Breeland displayed signs of greatness in years to come. He still led a porous Washington secondary with two interceptions, and will greatly benefit from the playing experience early in his career. Bashaud will only get better as he improves on his successful rookie campaign.
