A strong free agency is vital to the Philadelphia Eagles’ hopes of a turnaround. Here are five free agent targets who could pay dividends in 2015.

Denarius Moore came on strong for the Oakland Raiders last year, but seems to have taken a back seat to Mychal Rivera and Rod Streater for Derek Carr’s attention. Moore has the speed to stretch the field vertically and make plays downfield, and could be a nice complement to Jordan Matthews and Jeremy Maclin in a three-WR set. This is, of course, assuming that Riley Cooper’s contract becomes too much of a mistake for Howie Roseman to handle.

Should Brandon Graham decide to seek employment elsewhere as a 4-3 DE, or should Trent Cole be released, Jason Worilds would be a solid replacement. Worilds is playing under the transition tag this year, and so far has not made progress on a long-term contract with the Steelers. A pass rushing specialist, he has great speed and would look real good opposite Conner Barwin… so long as the price is right.

3. S Da'Norris Searcy

A starter on Buffalo’s strong defense, Da'Norris Searcy has 4.5 speed that gives him the coverage versatility Billy Davis craves. He’ll man up on slot receivers and give you an interception, but you’ll pay for it with his lack of ability in run support. Despite that, his coverage ability would easily trump that of Nate Allen and help stabilize the back end of the Philadelphia Eagles’ secondary.

2. CB Byron Maxwell

He has the size and physicality that Chip Kelly loves. On the field, Byron Maxwell has excellent ball skills, although he won’t make many interceptions. As much as I’m sure Seattle would love to re-sign him, with deals for Russell Wilson, KJ Wright and Bobby Wagner also on the table, Maxwell might slip through the cracks. He’d be a major improvement over both Bradley Fletcher and Cary Williams and bring a physical presence to the defense.

1. QB Jake Locker

Not only does Nick Foles need competition, but the Eagles desperately need a capable veteran backup who can make plays. His accuracy and injury history are a bit worrisome, but Jake Locker has the mobility, arm strength and character to make him a dangerous weapon in Chip Kelly’s offense. Signing Locker also allows the Eagles to focus on defense in the draft, rather than spending those premium picks in a trade for a top QB prospect.
