The Green Bay Packers don't often make a bunch of moves in the free agency period. They choose to build from within, but when they do venture into free agency, they make those moves count. Julius Peppers was just another example of that this year. Although the season isn't over yet, we can always look ahead toward free agency. Here are five players the Packers should consider signing.

The past two years have been frightening for Packers fans as they have witnessed their star quarterback suffer significant injuries. The Packers don't know enough about Scott Tolzien to re-sign him, and Matt Flynn hasn't done much with plenty of opportunity this season. A quality backup is vital for a team that relies so heavily on Aaron Rodgers. Jake Locker would come cheap, and he has years of NFL experience.

It's amazing what a change of scenery can do for a player. Akeem Ayers couldn't even sniff the field in Tennessee, but he has become a real playmaker for the Patriots. He's an outside backer who can rush the passer. That's just what the Packers need, especially with Julius Peppers' future up in the air.

Could you imagine the numbers Aaron Rodgers would have put up with a playmaking tight end on the roster. No disrespect to Andrew Quarless and Richard Rodgers, but they aren't exactly game-changers. Jordan Cameron could be that guy, and he could come at a discount after suffering through an injury-plagued year. Plus, he would be much cheaper than Julius Thomas. The Packers should definitely consider it.

Cedric Thornton is a restricted free agent, so the Eagles can decide to match the offer if they so choose. But signing Thornton would give the Packers a legitimate run-stopper on the line. He'd be a perfect fit for the Packers' 3-4 scheme, and he would help their biggest weakness.

The most important thing the Packers need to do this offseason is re-sign Randall Cobb. The Packers don't often let young free agents walk, and Cobb should be no exception. I know Ted Thompson will do the proper thing.
