Jameis Winston Makes Most Sense For Buffalo Bills In 2015 NFL Draft

Jameis Winston may be one of the most polarizing figures in the 2015 NFL Draft, but isn’t that exactly what the Buffalo Bills need? The last time they were ever considered contenders was back in the days of Jim Kelly, and it makes you feel bad for their fans, who have never seen a Super Bowl win.

Is Winston a gamble? Absolutely, but in the same vein, he could end up being a home run if his maturity issues dissolve with growth.

Rex Ryan is clearly not an offensive genius, and it is good that he hired an offensive coordinator in Greg Roman to offset his flaws. But is E.J. Manuel truly the answer for Buffalo at QB? I remain unconvinced, and that is why adding Winston could be just what the doctor ordered. Ryan will need a franchise quarterback to build around if his stint with the Bills should prove successful, and Marcus Mariota is not a player with enough size to produce at the next level.

The unfortunate thing is that Buffalo’s first pick is No. 50 overall thanks to their draft-day trade to grab Sammy Watkins. Pairing that wide receiver and a quality QB would be a huge coup, however, it is probably not a likely scenario. Their only hope of landing Winston is through another trade.

Was his loss on a huge stage after tension between him and Jimbo Fisher a bad sign? It could be, but I also trust my eyes throughout the season. Winston may be extremely immature, but this is a player with real talent. Buffalo could definitely use his combination of size, touch, running ability and game day focus.

For all of Winston’s potential distractions, he has the unique skill of zoning in when it counts and leading his team to (mostly) wins. Only one loss marred his college career on the field, and the Bills probably wish they hadn’t traded that first rounder now.
