2015 NFL Draft: Shane Ray Would Thrive On New York Jets

Shane Ray is considered by many to be a top draft pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. The defensive end straight out of Missouri has impressed many in his collegiate career as a speedy defender capable of flying through offensive lines to bring the pressure to anyone with the football. The New York Jets are in need of some new pass rushers and should Ray be available when they are on the clock with the sixth selection in the first round, would make a ton of sense to draft him almost immediately.

While many believe his size could be an issue down the road at 6-foot-2, 240 pounds, make no mistake about it, he’s the kind of athlete who won’t rest until he becomes the very best at what he does. He’s passionate and would bring a nice energy on defense. The Jets need to add some new blood to their defensive unit that is capable of excelling at blitzing schemes and overall getting to the quarterback faster.

Should the Jets draft Ray, he would thrive as an outside linebacker with his strength and ability to zone in on plays making key defensive decisions. His reaction time is superb and doesn’t get fooled too easily on play-action passes or trick plays like most defenders do coming into the draft.

Ray would be a nice upgrade over linebacker Quinton Coples since he hasn’t lived up to expectations the past couple of years. If the Jets could convert Ray into an outside linebacker, and provide him the right coaching and support, he could be quite successful with how the Jets plan to revamp their defensive scheming in 2015.

Overall, Ray will be coveted by many teams since he could be a difference-maker for years to come. The Jets might not get their dream pick of a future franchise quarterback in Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota as they might not be available when they select, but Ray would be a step in the right direction from a defensive point of view.
