With 2014 done for the San Diego Chargers, the management will need to decide who stays and who goes in terms of contracted players. Several Bolts underperformed and might be on the chopping block due to being replaced by either the draft or free agency. The following are five players who will be released by the San Diego Chargers in 2015 offseason.

Manti Te'o has underperformed from the first day he stepped onto the field for the Chargers. He has a few decent games towards the end of this season, but generally is a non-factor in games. The Chargers have given him two seasons to prove himself and he has not been able to live up to the standards of an NFL starter on defense.

Donald Brown was supposed to be the answer at RB on both 3rd down and when Ryan Mathews was out of the game. He really hasn't been the answer for anything productive, and was responsible for missing a key block that got Chargers punter Mike Scifres hurt. With the Bolts owing Brown around $3 million next year, it doesn't look good for him to be around in 2015.

John Philips was brought in from the Dallas Cowboys as a special teams player who would occasionally play TE for the Chargers. The problem is that they are paying Philips more money than their true backup to Antonio Gates, Ladarius Green. Philips is expendable and could be replaced by a late round draft pick, which would save the team millions.

2. QB Kellen Clemens

With Philip Rivers playing well and most likely getting an extension for the long term this next season, the Chargers can afford to be choosy with their backup QB spot. Kellen Clemens is a reliable veteran, but he is not the Chargers' future. It would seem the Chargers would want to start planning at least two years down the road, possibly via the draft in 2015, for a QB who could take over for Rivers.

Jarret Johnson is just as likely to retire as he is to be released, but the Chargers cannot afford to bring him back in 2015, as he is a shell of the player he was with the Baltimore Ravens. He took a pay cut last year after underperforming in 2013, but at $2 million, he is still overpriced, and the Chargers should be parting ways with the veteran before the 2015 season starts.
