Now that the Frank Gore era could legitimately be coming to an end, here's a look at five other teams that might be interested in bringing Gore on board for the 2015 season.

Minnesota would only be in play for Gore if Adrian Peterson is out of the picture. Matt Asiata is a restricted free agent, leaving Jerick McKinnon as the only viable option left on the current roster. Most certainly the Vikings will have a new running back after the draft, but Gore would be the best veteran back they’d have and could help groom the younger guys while pitching in 10+ carries a game.

Lamar Miller is going into a contract year fresh off a resurgent season of 1,374 total yards and 10 touchdowns, and the depth behind Miller isn’t fantastic. Gore would be a valuable change-of-pace player and insurance in the event Miller’s 2014 was a fluke. And since Gore graduated from the University of Miami, he might jump at the chance to end his career where it started.

Gore wouldn’t see much of the field as the backup to Le’Veon Bell, but he’d be an important reserve player. He wouldn’t be able to do all the things Bell is able to do, but Gore is talented enough as a receiver that he would be a sufficient replacement if needed. Plus, with some defensive tweaks, the Steelers could make a Super Bowl run soon. I’m sure Gore wouldn’t mind that at all.

2. St. Louis Rams

Signing Gore would allow the Rams to move on from Benny Cunningham and Isaiah Pead, saving themselves some cap money. Gore would also provide a quality backup and change-of-pace option to Tre Mason, and give the team some time to really examine Zac Stacy and his future with the team.

Chris Johnson is out of town and Bilal Powell is an unrestricted free agent. The other two backs on the roster, the very average Chris Ivory and Daryl Richardson, are both free agents in 2016. Gore would walk onto the Jet field as the starter and would probably have himself a solid year or two of full-time work. He’d be a great safety valve while Geno Smith develops or for whatever rookie quarterback Smith is replaced with.
