Over the past few seasons, it’s been painfully obvious that both safety positions have been the Chicago Bears’ biggest weakness. Even after an attempt to strengthen the secondary last offseason via the draft and free agency, the Bears are still in dire need of an upgrade on the defense’s back end. With the NFL Scouting Combine only a few days away, here are five safeties Chicago needs to keep at the top of their list.

Gerod Holliman played only one season as a starter at Louisville and finished the 2014 campaign leading the nation with an NCAA tying-record 14 interceptions. The Jim Thorpe Award winner has plenty to prove at this year’s Combine, considering his lack of playing experience.

Before declaring for the 2015 NFL Draft, Chris Hackett was an instrumental part of TCU’s defense in 2014. The first-team All-Big 12 selection led the Horned Frogs with seven interceptions last season, and he has shown great durability by never missing a game due to injury.

Playing as a true freshman in Oxford, Miss., Cody Prewitt has proved that he can make an immediate contribution on a defense. Prewitt, a 2014 second-team All-American, is a safety who can play well against the run and the pass.

Anthony Harris’ best season at Virginia was in 2013, when he led the nation with eight interceptions. The ball-hawking skills from the 2013 All-American and All-ACC selection could greatly help bring back dominance to Chicago’s defense.

As the top-rated safety in this year’s draft class, Alabama’s Landon Collins is definitely a player who can crack the starting lineup for the Bears in 2015. Collins finished his collegiate career as a 2014 first-team All-SEC selection and first-team All-American.
