With the 2015 NFL Scouting Combine now in everyone’s rear view mirror, teams have a better understanding of who they will target in the 2015 NFL Draft this May. For the Chicago Bears, most of their needs will be on the defensive side of the ball, especially after switching to a 3-4 alignment. Although free agents have yet to be signed, here’s an indication of how the Bears will use their draft picks.

Round 1: Danny Shelton (NT, Washington)

In a 3-4 alignment, everything starts with the nose tackle. Danny Shelton is one of the top interior linemen in this year’s draft, and his 6-foot-2, 339-pound frame will be a perfect fit for Chicago’s new-look defense. Furthermore, Shelton may be more productive than the aging Jeremiah Ratliff.

Round 2: Anthony Harris (SS, Virginia)

Even with the possibility of Chicago signing a safety via free agency, adding Anthony Harris to the roster wouldn’t hurt. Harris showed his ball skills in 2013 when he led the nation with eight interceptions. The Bears could definitely use his ball-hawking skills to return to dominance.

Round 3: Lorenzo Mauldin (OLB, Louisville)

Lorenzo Mauldin played both defensive end and outside linebacker for Louisville, which shows his versatility. Mauldin’s relationship with Bears outside linebackers coach Clint Hurtt (a former Louisville coach) could give more of a reason why Chicago will take a chance on the pass-rusher.

Round 4: Ronald Darby (CB, Florida State)

Charles Tillman will more than likely not return to the Windy City, and Tim Jennings was a huge disappointment in 2014. Ronald Darby does have a history of off-the-field problems, but his 4.39 speed could be used in the Bears’ secondary.

Round 6: Hayes Pullard (ILB, USC)

The switch to the 3-4 will turn some of the Bears’ defensive ends into outside linebackers. Hayes Pullard could add much-needed depth to the interior part of Chicago’s linebacking corps.

Just like Pullard, Trey DePriest could make the depth at inside linebacker much stronger for Chicago. DePriest’s experience in a 3-4 is a plus, but he will have to make his mark on special teams as a late-round pick.
