2015 NFL Mock Draft: New York Giants 7-Round Mock, Late-April Edition

With just under a week before the NFL Draft in Chicago, here’s one more stab at the Giants’ mock draft. Again, there are some changes, but I really feel these are good moves, and not just shock picks. Trading their ninth pick isn’t very likely since they can get some great talent there. Assuming that, here are my latest round-by-round selections.

Round 1: Brandon Scherff, OT (Iowa)

My first mock had him, and now I’m back on the Scherff bandwagon. There are plenty of great choices among the top OLs, DTs and WRs here, but the biggest need still comes on the line. John Jerry was not a suitable OG, and replacing him is priority No. 1. Like incumbent RT Justin Pugh, Scherff is flexible along the line, allowing the Giants to play him wherever they need. If a certain player or two falls, this pick becomes more difficult to make.

Round 2: Eric Rowe, CB/S (Utah)

At 6-foot-1, 205 pounds, Rowe is a big corner (which may result in him transitioning to safety). Either way, the Giants could use his talent. As a second-round pick, he has everything New York would want: great ball skills, aggression in the run game and solid awareness on special teams. He’s a player who’s been on the rise on draft boards, but as the 38th-ranked prospect by CBS Sports, it’s a possibility he’s here for the Giants.

Round 3: Denzel Perryman, ILB (Miami)

Although I’ve had the Giants selecting Perryman in the second round before, it seems he’s slipping a bit, and if he’s around when the Giants are up at No. 74, he’s a sure-fire pick. He has great athleticism despite his size (5-foot-10, 236 pounds), and is an every-down linebacker. With their first three picks, the Giants fill the three biggest holes on the roster.

Round 4: Chris Conley, WR (Georgia)

If you’ve seen my previous mocks, you know I really like this kid. His stats won’t blow your mind, but his Combine numbers will. That’s obviously not everything, so when you check his game tape and see he was often the No. 2 receiver, you understand his less-impressive stats. That doesn’t change the fact that he has the skills to be a good WR in the NFL.

Round 5: Nick O’Leary, TE (Florida State)

His size isn’t what you’d love in a tight end (only 6-foot-3, 252 pounds), and he isn’t all that fast either. However, O’Leary is a great receiver with good hands and guts to catch the ball in traffic. His receptions and yards increased every year with Florida State (with whom he won the national championship), meaning he still has plenty of room to improve. Better, he’s had only two fumbles, both two seasons ago.

Rounds 6: Justin Coleman, CB (Tennessee)

Prince Amukamara and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie are both good corners, but after that, the Giants don’t have that much depth. As many as two CBs may convert to safety due to their lack of depth there too. Coleman in the sixth round is a great value. He’s average-sized, but showed improvement in his seasons at Tennessee, where he started 38 games.

Round 7: Kalev Eulls, DT (Mississippi State)

Round 7: Kalev Eulls, DT (Mississippi State)

Eulls is a big man -- 6-foot-3, 305 pounds -- and was a four-year starter in the SEC. He has good strength on the line of scrimmage and when tackling the ball-carrier, although he’s a little slow off the break. He projects perfectly as a 4-3 DT, and the Giants would do wonders by adding him to the depth chart.

Round 7 (from Denver): Erick Dargan (Oregon)

Seven INTs, 95 tackles and 13 passes defended were Dargan’s numbers in 2014. With that talent in the seventh round, New York might as well be stealing. Noted for his dedication in the locker room and on the field, he’s not the fastest player on the board, but he’s a very strong safety who doesn’t get beat very often.
