Longtime linebacker London Fletcher was just 5-foot-10 coming out of John Carroll University. Before Chris Borland retired, he was known as a 5-foot-11 linebacker who had “made it.” Another linebacker that “made it” and should’ve made it into the pro football hall of fame is Sam Mills, a 5-foot-9 LB durable enough to pound through a 12-year NFL career.

Size means nothing when you have the heart, motor and work ethic.

The San Diego Chargers have given Denzel Perryman a shot and the proving grounds have relocated. A two-time All-ACC honoree, Perryman piled on 218 tackles over his final two years with the Miami Hurricanes. There is no reason Perryman couldn’t comprehend the translation to the next level, figuring out how to “get it done” is an intangible exclusive of NFL Combine metrics.

I’m not saying Perryman is the next Ray Lewis, that would be ridiculous. Perryman is poised to carve and create an entirely new path in San Diego.
