5 Buffalo Bills Training Camp Battles to Watch in 2015

NFL training camp is rapidly approaching. With OTAs now in full swing, it will only be a matter of time before fans get to see their favorite teams start getting prepared for the regular season. Part of this preparation is getting a chance to watch players jockey for positions on the depth chart. The Buffalo Bills will have a lot of position battles during their camp. Here's a look at what could be the most intriguing training camp battles.

Charles Clay is the clear top tight end for the Bills, but he is injury prone so the backup position will be important for this team. Currently, the two players really in the mix are Chris Gragg and rookie Nick O’Leary. Gragg has more experience and is faster than O’Leary. However, O'Leary is a better blocker and a better intermediate target than Gragg, which may give him an upper hand due to the team's lack of strong armed quarterbacks.

4. Right Tackle

Last season, the right tackle position was arguably one of the worst positions on the entire Bills team. The right tackle competition will be between two second year players, Seantrel Henderson and Cyrus Kouandjio. Henderson, who started every game last season, has a slight advantage now given his potential, his athleticism and Kouandjio’s struggles with injuries last season. Hopefully Henderson will have improved since then.

3. Free Safety

Jairus Byrd left in free agency and the Bills replaced him with Da’Norris Searcy. Now he is gone and the team was supposedly going to replace him with Duke Williams. There is talk of Corey Graham moving over to safety and he would likely challenge Williams for the starting position. I would assume that Graham would win the starting safety job, but Williams certainly won't go down without a fight.

2. Backup Running Back

It’s no secret that LeSean McCoy is going to lead the Bills’ running game this season. The real question is this: will the team stick with Fred Jackson as the main backup? Jackson will face stiff competition from Bryce Brown, Boobie Dixon, and rookie Karlos Williams for that number two spot. Ultimately, I think Jackson will be suiting up for another team next season because a cheaper alternative, like Brown or Williams, will beat him out.

Another year, another quarterback controversy in Buffalo. The Bills are holding an open competition between Matt Cassel, EJ Manuel, and Tyrod Taylor for the starting spot. It’s a rather underwhelming crowd. There is no clear leader in the competition at the moment, but I have to believe that Matt Cassel will step up, win the job and be able to perform like Kyle Orton did last season with the team.
