Predicting the Impact of Every New York Giants 2015 Draft Pick

The New York Giants had a solid draft class despite only having six picks overall. In the draft, the Giants were able to fill some major needs while still managing to get talented players. Though they reached on some of their day three picks and neglected to add a linebacker or defensive tackle, they still were able to add some players who will have an impact from day one. Here’s a look at the impact their draft class will have.

Round 1 - Ereck Flowers

At first, it looked like Ereck Flowers was going to be the piece to complete the New York Giants' offensive line. He was slated to start at right tackle so Justin Pugh could move inside to guard, but then Will Beatty got hurt. Now, Flowers will be starting in Beatty’s place at the left tackle position. Flowers should be able to hold up there given his frame and athleticism, and he will have a major impact on the success of the Giants offense.

Round 2 - Landon Collins

The Giants traded up to get Landon Collins, because they had a massive hole at safety. Collins will come in and be the starter right away. He should be an excellent fit on the Giants defense, and if he can develop his coverage skills, he will become an elite safety. For now, he is a solid box safety who will see a lot of playing time and should have a positive impact on the Giants defense. He could end up being the Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Round 3 - Owamagbe Odighizuwa

Some projected Odighizuwa as a late-first to early second-round prospect, so getting him in the third round was a great value. He will likely not be a starter for the Giants this season, but Odighizuwa should be a good situational pass-rusher and will be successful working across from Jason Pierre-Paul. Long term, he could develop into a starter and help strengthen the Giants’ pass rush.

Round 5 - Mykkele Thompson

Ironically, Mykkele Thompson did not expect to be drafted, yet he was taken in the fifth round by the Giants. Though Thompson doesn’t have a particularly great skill set, the Giants are weak at safety even with the addition of Landon Collins. Thompson could challenge for a starting spot and will certainly get playing time as a backup. He probably won’t be a huge upgrade over the safeties the team already has.

Round 6 - Geremy Davis

Geremy Davis is going to be hard pressed to make the Giants roster, considering that the team has about five receivers (Victor Cruz, Odell Beckham Jr., Preston Parker, Dwayne Harris, Rueben Randle) who will almost certainly make the team. Even if Davis makes the team, he likely won’t see much playing time, and my guess is that he either ends up on a practice squad somewhere or he just becomes a free agent searching for work.

Round 7 - Bobby Hart

Bobby Hart will also have trouble making the roster. He needs to prove that he can be a versatile backup who can play either guard or tackle. I don’t see him being able to do that as he projects to be only a guard. Hart may make the team, but if he does I don’t expect to see him suit up for many games or get much playing time. His impact on the Giants will be minimal at best.
