5 Biggest Red Flags Heading Into Chicago Bears’ 2015 NFL Training Camp

Training camp is just about a month away. The Chicago Bears have wrapped up all their OTAs, and the players all get a break until camp fires up in late July. The Bears will look very different in 2015 and hopefully they will be much improved, but there are still several issues facing the team. Here are the five biggest red flags facing the Bears entering training camp.

Vic Fangio wants his defense to get after the quarterback. Hopefully Pernell McPhee, Sam Acho and Jared Allen can do it, but to have a strong pass rush, the Bears need production out of Lamarr Houston and Willie Young as well. Both are coming back from serious injuries and their exact return dates are not certain. The Bears are going to need them both to contribute to successfully run Fangio's 3-4.

The Bears have roughly 78 tight ends on the current roster. With Zach Miller returning and Bennett as the starter, that seems like a lot of competition for the third TE roster spot. Perhaps Pace isn't certain of Bennett's future and wants to cover his bases. Bennett missed OTAs and had a very apathetic attitude at minicamp. If he remains on the roster with this attitude, there could very well be a dip in his production.

3. Talent Level

Ryan Pace brought in a lot of new faces, but did he bring in difference makers? There will be a lot of new names on the backs of the jerseys but whether those players are actually more talented than their predecessors remains to be seen. The Bears will be better coached, but if the talent level on the field hasn't improved much, their overall record won't either.

2. Secondary

Most Bears fans still have nightmares and wake up in cold sweats thanks to last year's pass coverage. It seems every time you looked up, someone in Chicago's secondary was chasing a streaking receiver down the field. Antrel Rolle will improve the defensive backfield some and Pace added some depth, but for the most part, it will be a lot of the same faces covering WRs. If the secondary shows little improvement it will be difficult to compete.

The same questions about Cutler still need to be answered. Can he cut down on turnovers? Is he a franchise quarterback? Based off last season, the answer to those questions is no. But Cutler is far from the worst quarterback in the league, and it could be much worse for the Bears at signal-caller. However, Cutler needs to find his groove in Adam Gase's offense and improve significantly from last season if the Bears want to win games.
