One position that is quickly becoming a commodity across the NFL due to injuries is at wide receiver. Multiple teams are hurting for WR depth, and that could mean several players who many NFL teams were hoping to add to their practice squads will find a home on another team’s 53-man roster. One such player who could end up on a different team than the one whose preseason he participated in is Tennessee Titans seventh-round pick Tre McBride.

McBride was expected to be a fourth or fifth-round pick, but he fell all the way to the seventh where Tennessee was more than happy to pick him up. A talented receiver at William & Mary, McBride impressed many scouts on his way to the NFL.

However, McBride has done nothing but disappoint in preseason. He has yet to get going in the receiving game and looked absolutely lost on special teams. At one point against the St. Louis Rams, you could actually see the indecision in his body language during a return.

This does not bode well for McBride’s time in Tennessee, because the Titans boast a plethora of receiving talent. Harry Douglas, Justin Hunter, Kendall Wright, Hakeem Nicks, Jacoby Ford and Dorial Green-Beckham should easily make the roster. Rico Richardson has been impressive in the preseason and will likely end up as either one of the last of the 53 players or – even more likely – on the practice squad.

McBride could even find that his spot with the Titans is taken up by a tight end. Phillip Supernaw and Chase Coffman have been extremely impressive and will give the Titans nightmares about dropping one or the other. Tennessee has had that come back to bite them in the past, as LeGarrette Blount was a player who they dropped expecting him to join the practice squad before he was picked up by another team.

McBride is a good receiver, but Tennessee just doesn’t seem to have room on the roster for him. Many NFL teams will be interested in the young receiver, and it will be intriguing to say the least to see which teams give him a call if he is cut.
