When he was heading back into the locker room from pregame warm-ups prior to yesterday’s game against the Green Bay Packers, Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton noticed a big Packers sign hanging from the first row of Bank of America Stadium. Not a fan of another team’s fans infringing on his turf, Newton ran over and ripped the sign down.

After the game, Newton was asked why he tore the sign down, and he gave one of the greatest metaphors I’ve ever heard:
Reports are stating that the fans have filed a police report against Newton, accusing him of theft of the banner. They say it cost them $500, which seems a little ridiculous, but okay, whatever.
According to Bank of America stadium policy, the banner should’ve never been allowed in the stadium to start with:
“No banners or flags expressing support of visiting teams may be affixed to or displayed on any surface. Hand held signs or posters that are in compliance with the balance of this policy are acceptable.”
If you want to support your team in a visiting stadium, feel free to wear jerseys, hats or t-shirts with your teams logos and cheer as loud as you can for them, but don’t think you’re going to bring in a massive banner, and get away with it. I’m glad Newton did what he did, and am ashamed at my fellow Panthers fans for not taking care of it for him.
