The New York Giants take on the Miami Dolphins down at Sun Life Stadium in primetime on Monday Night Football. The Giants haven’t had a strong running game all season. In 12 games, the Giants have rushed for over 100 yards just twice. Not only has the four-man rotation failed, there has been a failure allocating who gets the ball. If the Giants want a balanced offense for the rest of the season, their best bet is to give Orleans Darkwa the bulk of the carries.

No running back for the Giants has gotten more than 65 rushing yards in a single game this season. The rotation of four backs is due to the lack of a true starter, but it also means that the starting back Rashad Jennings hasn’t been anywhere near dominant on the ground. The Giants rank 29th in the league with 88.1 yards per game; they have put their offense on the backs of Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr..

Last week against the New York Jets, Darkwa led the Giants in carries with eight, just two more than Andre Williams, who had six. He is starting to show himself as the best back on the Giants, which is remarkable, considering he was on the verge of being cut when the roster trimmed down to 53. The knock on Darkwa has been his inability to stay healthy, but with just four games remaining, it’s time to let him carry the load of the ground game.

Monday night couldn’t be a better time for Darkwa to ignite the running game as they face the one of the league’s worst run defenses. The Dolphins allow 134.8 yards per game on the ground which puts them 30th in the NFL. However, just two week ago, facing the Washington Redskins poor run defense, the Giants managed just 33 yards on the ground. The Giants had no commitment to the run in that game and certainly no commitment to Darkwa who had just two carries.

The offensive line will be a problem against Miami, however. Ereck Flowers is questionable, which means Justin Pugh may play tackle in his stead and Bobby Hart will have to play guard. It would be Hart’s first career start at guard and he would likely face Ndamukong Suh, a tough matchup for sure that would affect the running game.

Darkwa averages 4.1 yards per carry, second on the Giants to Shane Vereen, who gets carries often when defenses are expecting the pass. He is both an elusive running and a bruiser, which can’t be said about Williams. Jennings has had opportunities as the feature back this season and hasn’t been effective. The Giants need a running game for the final four games of the season and Darkwa could be the answer against the Dolphins.
