Matt Forte Leaves Subtle Reminder To Chicago Bears After Cleaning Out Locker

By Jason Fletcher

By now, every NFL team that missed out on the playoffs has gone through the disappointing act of cleaning out their lockers as the 2015 season is over. For some, that means cleaning it out until next season, but for guys with expiring contracts, it could mean the end of their tenure with their current team.

That category includes Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte whose four-year deal expired following this season. It’s expected that the Bears will look to move on from the 30-year-old Forte and turn the starting running back job over to Jeremy Langford who impressed as a rookie when Forte missed a few games earlier in the season.

While the Bears may be ready to move on from Forte, it seems as if Forte isn’t ready to move on from the Bears. After cleaning out his locker yesterday, he left two things in his locker: a random bottle of lotion and a shirt that simply said, “Work Horse” with his number 22. Obviously, it’s a not so subtle hint that he wants people to protect themselves against dry skin.

If this is the end for Forte in Chicago, he will leave the Bears as the organization’s second-leading rusher behind Walter Payton, sixth-leading receiver and ninth-leading scorer. He will go down as the best running back in Bears’ history not named Payton or Gale Sayers, and while it would be sad to see him leave the only organization he’s ever known, Forte will have definitely left his mark.
