New York Giants 7-Round 2016 NFL Mock Draft Before The Senior Bowl

The New York Giants need to hit it big in this draft. They have made some big hits in the past with Odell Beckham Jr., but overall, they have swung and missed. Nearly this entire draft class must be players who will contribute and help rebuild the winning ways.

1. Shaq Lawson, DE Clemson

Lawson showed off his true talent and competitive nature in the National Championship Game. With his high draft stock, he played in the game hurt and risked his future. He played a heck of a game, though. He had to impress teams with his selfless nature and toughness. When healthy, Lawson is a stud. Giants grab him here and help their struggling pass rush.

2. Su'a Cravens, OLB USC

Cravens is a safety/linebacker hybrid, but scouts seem to think he is best as an outside linebacker. That is perfect for the Giants in round two. He will come as an athletic type, which they need to cover the tight end as they were gashed all season there. He could be a starter from day one.

3. Kenny Lawler, WR Cal

Rueben Randle is a free agent-to-be, and beyond Beckham, the Giants have plenty of question marks at receiver. Lawler has good size and could be a steal in round three. You know Ben McAdoo is going to want to grab some offensive players, and this could be a nice selection.

4. Tyvis Powell, FS Ohio State

Powell shined in his last collegiate game as he collected an interception in the Fiesta Bowl. The Giants were horrible at safety last year and still have plenty of depth questions there. Powell would be a solid pick in round four. He could fight for a starting spot or at worst provide better depth than Craig Dahl or Cooper Taylor.

5. Cyrus Jones, CB Alabama

Jones is currently projected as a fifth round talent, and if he falls there he would be another potential gem for the Giants. Prince Amukamara is a free agent, and even if he comes back the Giants still need plenty of depth at corner. Jones could also help in the return game if they want to remove Dwayne Harris from there to keep him healthy at receiver. Jones comes well coached, and maybe he could help former Bama player Landon Collins step his game up in his second season.

6. Nate Sudfeld, QB Indiana

The Giants probably shouldn't waste a draft pick on a project, but McAdoo may want to grab a QB he can groom on his own for the future. Eli Manning is getting older and Sudfeld does offer intriguing size and ability. He was productive in the high-powered Indiana offense. There might not be any harm in grabbing an insurance policy.

7. Eric Mac Lain, OG Clemson

Mac Lain was a big-time leader at Clemson and is a great character guy. He became their unofficial spokesman during their deep run. In the seventh round he could bring backup guard depth for the oft-injured Geoff Schwartz. Who knows, maybe he can turn into a solid pro. He will bring great qualities to the locker room, if nothing else.
