Martellus Bennett And The Most Disappointing Chicago Bears Of 2015

For every good side to a story, there is always a bad side. In the case of the Chicago Bears, their 6-10 record in 2015 did feature players who produced, but that seemed to be overshadowed by inconsistent play from several others. After mulling it over, here are my five most disappointing Bears of 2015.

5. Eddie Royal

It’s hard to put Eddie Royal on this list due to him missing seven games to injury. However, for the nine games he did play, Royal managed to tally only 238 receiving yards and one touchdown. Royal was one of many Bears receivers who were plagued with injury in 2015, and inconsistent play was the result of it.

4. Alan Ball

At the start of the season, cornerback Alan Ball was in the starting lineup for the first three games. Unfortunately, his performance played a huge part in the Bears losing those first three games of the year. Needless to say, Ball was benched for Tracy Porter and didn’t start another game.

3. Jermon Bushrod

Just like Ball, Jermon Bushrod started the first three games of the year. But unlike Ball, Bushrod was taken out of the starting lineup due to injury. Though Bushrod did get healthy, he couldn't reclaim his starting spot at left tackle, which was given to Charles Leno Jr. Even when on the field, Bushrod didn't seem to live up to the five-year, $39.965 million contract that he signed in 2013.

2. Robbie Gould

I actually could have put Chicago’s entire special teams unit on this list, but I chose to focus on just one player instead. Overall, Robbie Gould had a good season, connecting on 84.6 percent of his field goal attempts. However, he wasn’t good when it mattered most. Gould’s three missed field goals in Weeks 13 and 14 prevented the Bears from getting to .500 and killed the huge wave of momentum from the win over the Green Bay Packers.

1. Martellus Bennett

Injury did play a factor in the decline of Martellus Bennett's play in 2015, but even when healthy, he didn’t look like the Pro Bowl tight end from the previous season. With Chicago’s receiving corps decimated by injuries of their own, Bennett was looked upon as the go-to guy in the passing game and was mediocre at best. Bennett's play in 2015 could be more of a reason to shop him around in the offseason.
