Philadelphia Eagles Make Excellent Move Signing Rueben Randle

By Jacob Camenker

It was recently announced that the Philadelphia Eagles made another major addition to their roster as they are preparing for the 2016 NFL season. The team had a major hole at the wide receiver position but today they managed to sign one of the best receivers left on the open market. They agreed to terms with Rueben Randle to lure him away from their divisional rival the New York Giants, and the move was a great one by the team.

Randle has been a solid but unspectacular player for the Giants during his four-year tenure with the team. After being a second-round pick out of LSU, it took Randle a couple of years to develop into a strong No. 2 receiver. Over the past couple of years, Randle has caught 128 passes for 1,735 yards and 11 touchdowns and was generally a decent complement to the electric Odell Beckham Jr.

However, the Giants did not want to overpay to keep Randle, especially after the early moves in the receiver market that dictated high values for No. 2 guys like Marvin Jones and Mohamed Sanu. As a result, Randle went relatively under the radar on the market and as a result, the Eagles were able to get a steal of a deal.

The team is reportedly only paying $3 million for Randle’s services over a single season. And considering that Randle is only 24 years old and has shown the ability to be a No. 2 receiver, that is more than a fair asking price. Randle will come in and be a starter right away for the Eagles. Doug Pederson and Sam Bradford will certainly be glad to have Randle for the upcoming season.

Overall, the Eagles are risking very little in the Randle deal. They are acquiring a solid, young player who has not quite lived up to expectations and will be looking to prove himself in a new city. He should be an excellent complement for Jordan Matthews, and if things do not work out then they can part ways with him in the next offseason. This move is one that may have a major impact on the Eagles’ offense in 2016.
