2016 NFL Draft: 5 Worst Picks Of The First Round

The first round of the 2016 NFL Draft is in the books, so now we can scrutinize all 31 picks before they’ve played a down as a pro. Without hindsight to prove me wrong, here are the five worst picks from Thursday night’s first round.

5. Texas A&M OT Germain Ifedi

Ifedi is considered a raw, developmental prospect, and the Seattle Seahawks have immediate needs along their offensive line. The risk is mitigated at No. 31, but Seattle could have done better with their first-round pick.

4. Georgia OLB Leonard Floyd

Floyd was a late-riser as a potential top-10 pick, and the Chicago Bears traded up from No. 11 to No. 9 to make it a reality. Making a move up for an elite talent can be justified, but Floyd is not on that level and the Bears were too aggressive.

3. Ohio State CB Eli Apple

With reported top target Leonard Floyd gone, the Giants took Apple, who was not the top cornerback available for a lot of analysts. No. 10 overall was one the first picks that looked like a reach, as Giants GM Jerry Reese tries to save his job.

2. Stanford OG Josh Garnett

Garnett won the 2015 Outland Trophy, but he wasn't necessarily the best guard available at No. 28. The 49ers had the draft pick ammunition to trade up, and it's fine to go after guys you covet, but it looks like a bad idea to move up for a guard.

1. Miami CB Artie Burns

With a lot of cornerbacks off the board, the Pittsburgh Steelers went with Burns at No. 25. Pro Football Focus points to Burns' shortcomings in zone coverage, and Pittsburgh's tendency to play a lot of zone last season makes the case for a big reach.
