The Kansas City Chiefs kick off their 2016 regular season in four months, and the team’s schedule is filled with a lot of exciting games. With three primetime games, including a Christmas night battle with the defending Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos, Chiefs fans have a lot to look forward to in 2016.
The NFL was generous to give the Chiefs three consecutive home games in December, which is always the month when the playoff race picks up steam. If Kansas City does well over the first three months of the season, it can use the three-game home stretch to its advantage and clinch a playoff spot.
With the AFC West improving and the Chiefs facing both of the teams that played in last year’s Super Bowl, there are certainly some big games ahead that will test the team. Here are the five biggest games on Kansas City’s 2016 schedule.
1. Week 1 vs. San Diego Chargers

Yes, it is the San Diego Chargers, a team that finished 4-12. But a majority of NFL upsets occur in Week 1 as some teams with high expectations fall early. A 1-0 start and a win over an AFC West team can go a long way.
2. Week 4 at Pittsburgh Steelers

The Chiefs managed to defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers last year, but they did it against a Steelers offense that played with Landry Jones under center. This time, the Chiefs must stop Ben Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown if they want to win.
3. Week 6 at Oakland Raiders

The Oakland Raiders have not finished above .500 since 2002. Some 14 years later, the Raiders have the best roster they’ve put together since falling in the Super Bowl to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Chiefs must come together in all three facets.
4. Week 10 at Carolina Panthers

Including the postseason, the Carolina Panthers have won their last 13 games at home. If the Chiefs can go on the road and hand the Panthers a loss after a 15-1 season, they will certainly have earned it and deserve a lot of credit.
5. Week 16 vs. Denver Broncos

Kansas City’s Week 16 matchup with the Denver Broncos can’t be more enticing. It’s the defending Super Bowl champions in an AFC West battle at Arrowhead Stadium on Christmas night and it will air on Sunday Night Football.
