Dallas Stars: What Is The Expectation For Tyler Seguin In 2013-14?
The Dallas Stars made perhaps the most significant move of the summer, in acquiring Tyler Seguin. It was a large move not only due to the names involved, but it also gives them a player with gigantic upside that hasn’t quite realized his potential yet.
We’ve seen flashes of brilliance from Seguin to this point in his career. Of course, those flashes have been overshadowed by the fact that his tenure in Boston was spent mainly on the wing and being noticed more for his partying lifestyle off the ice, than the success he had on it.
Heading into his first season with the Stars, though, Seguin will be back in his natural position, likely centering the first line for Dallas. This will put him in a position to succeed, and should really open things up for him. With that in mind, just what is the expectation for Tyler Seguin heading into the 2013-14 season?
Seguin’s best season to this point came in 2011-12. It was his second full season in the league, and saw him jump from only 11 goals and 11 assists in his rookie campaign, all the way up to 67 points in 2011-12, a total which included 29 goals and 38 assists.
This past season, Seguin notched 32 points in 48 games, with an event 16 split between goals and assists. He fired a ton of shots, finishing with 161 on the season. Of course, it was another season in which he spent pretty much all of his time out on the wing.
With Dallas, he’ll be back in the middle. He’ll have Jamie Benn to one side, and potentially Valeri Nichushkin on the other. You’re talking about a kid who could potentially jump up to 75-80 points this season. He’s capable of putting in 30 goals, but with a couple of goal scorers on either side of him, Seguin is in a near perfect situation.
The long and short of it is that expectations are high for Seguin. The fact that he’s coming off of a quiet season in Boston (on the ice) doesn’t mean anything. He’s going to be expected to reach star status in a hurry with Dallas, and he’s certainly in a situation to do it.
