Brandon Mashinter is going to get his shot to bring some passion and energy to the New York Rangers forwards against the Philadelphia Flyers. Mashinter is officially in the lineup as Mats Zuccarello has been scratched.
Mashinter is a big 6-foot-4, 220-pound winger who brings a physical asset to the game. This is an area the Rangers have been lacking in over the last couple of games. He is going to get a chance to bring a lot of passion to this team. If he can make a quick impact, you can expect him to stay in the lineup over the next few games with the Rangers dealing with so many injuries. Last season, Mashinter appeared in four games with the Rangers and did not record a point.
Mashinter is expected to play on a line with Dominic Moore and Derek Dorsett. This is the Rangers’ fourth line, and they will see about 10-12 minutes of ice time on Thursday night. Alain Vigneault said he made the decision to scratch Zuccarello purely based on his poor performance over the last few games. Mashinter will help add a physical presence in a game that is sure to get physical with a big rival in the Flyers.
The Rangers desperately need a spark to get the team moving in the right direction. With so many injured players, it is the perfect opportunity for a guy like Mashinter to take the ball and run with it. It’s now his chance to shine.
