The Dallas Stars were Stanley Cup contenders going into last season. They were just plain awful against their own division, going 8-14-7 over the course of the year. This is the difference between making noise in the playoffs and playing golf early. They fixed some of the issues, but there are others that still remain.

Tyler Seguin is being talked about as the heir apparent to Sidney Crosby as the best player in the game, but we've heard this before. Can he avoid the pressure that comes with those expectations?

What, if anything, can one expect from Ales Hemsky? He claims to feel improved after hip surgery, but every player says something to that effect after a bad season. The veteran is entering a make-or-break season. He needs to turn it around, or he could find himself out of the league.

The huge move of the Stars' offseason was a blockbuster trade to bring Patrick Sharp in from the Chicago Blackhawks. The problem is they might be getting a lesser version of Sharp. The 33-year-old only scored 16 goals. Hopefully playing with Seguin and Jamie Benn will ignite his career.

The Stars made a bizarre move by bringing in Antti Niemi. They already had an aging goalie who was great one night, bad the other. They literally have two goalies who could end up being the same. There were much better options out there for trade. Will these two be able to split time down the middle, or will one end up standing out and taking the starter job?

Johnny Oduya brings a lot to this Stars defense, but it is still an uphill climb for this unit. They need much more. They did not get what they wanted from Alex Goligoski and ended up needing to lean too much on John Klingberg. They can't do that to Oduya, because he isn't that type of player. He is a reactive defenseman. Oduya does great when he plays with greatness.
