5 Players the Edmonton Oilers Should Trade Right Now

By Derek Kortepeter

Things are not going well for the Edmonton Oilers in the 2015-16 NHL season. They are currently ranked dead last in the Pacific Division, which is an embarrassment for a team with such a rich history. Getting some new players may be a way to improve the play, so here are five players the Oilers should consider trading.

5. Mark Letestu

The center is able to put up decent assist and goal numbers considering his two-way playing style. The problem is, this season, Letestu has played 19 games and only logged three points (one goal and two assists). On top of this, he currently sits at a minus-six statistically and his overall presence is not being felt on the ice. It may be time to switch him out.

4. Iiro Pakarinen

When Iiro Pakarinen played in other leagues, he showed massive promise. In the Edmonton lineup, however, he's simply not producing the numbers a winger should. With only one point in 11 games, it is curious why somebody with so much promise is under-performing. As the Oilers are in dire straights, they cannot afford to keep people around who are unable to do their jobs.

3. Andrew Miller

Miller has played six games and not contributed a single point to the team. For a forward that was rumored to be so good that he could make it on the top line (based on his NCAA play), Andrew has been underwhelming. Sure, it may be worth giving the guy some more time, but if Edmonton wants to start winning, they need to dump Miller for somebody with better scoring credentials.

2. Mark Fayne

The defenseman is truly all over the place this season. His minus-seven numbers are no accident, as he cannot seem to get it together. Fayne's biggest issue is that, against elite-shooters, he is dead-in-the-water. Being a shutdown defenseman is not in his future, as he can, at best, perform well against average lines. Some say Fayne is underrated -- I say he is just not fit for this team.

1. Cam Talbot

Goaltending for the Oilers is problematic in general, but compared against Anders Nilsson, Talbot is the weaker link. With a 3.09 GAA, .890 save percentage and a 3-8 win/loss record, Cam has failed in net. He simply cannot get it together, whether it is positioning or just being aware of the players around him. Not certain which team would trade for him, but it is worth a try.
