Duke Blue Devils commit Tyus Jones was impressibve last night, but Apple Valley (MN) was unable to scatch out a victoy with Jahlil Okafor domination on the low block.
“It was fun,” said Okafor after the win to Pioneer Press. “The goal is to win. I didn’t want to come out here and lose and then travel back to Chicago. We got the ‘W.’ I am happy about that.”
Okafor got a monkey off his back a bit, because his squad lost their season opener which left a bad taste in the center’s mouth and he took to twitter to vow they would be fine.
Jones and Okafor announced their decision simultaneously, and ever since then Duke Blue Devil fans everywhere has been salivating. Seeing the way that Okafor draws double teams it is not hard to imagine Jones hitting a lot of open jumpers next season. Heck, he was hitting almost all of his contested jumpers last night, so it will be incredible to see what he can do with a little bit of space. One of the jumpers he hit last night ended up being a rare four point play after he hit the free throw afterward.
Much thanks to Iowa Elites for tweeting out some video of the game, and about to settle down myself and watch the game for the second time tonight since have it recorded on DVR.

There is definitely more than one person excited about this duo, but you can count Apple Valley’s guard among them.
“Jahlil is a force down low,” Jones said to Pioneer Press. “He is a great player. I am excited for next year.”
