Tyus Jones recently balled against his future teammate Jahlil Okafor in a high school game that was aired on ESPN2, and it was a night of basketball that will be remembered for seasons to come. It was probably more attention than the small Minnesota town has seen in most of its history, and it must have been an exciting night for all of the basketball fans in that town holding it down.
The Duke Blue Devils coaching staff was in attendance and much love to John Millea for tweeting the picture below of the future Cameron Crazies floor general.

Just re-watched the game and Jones’ decision making is truly impressive; he remained calm as the score was slipping away and the plays he made down the stretch kept things closer than they should have been. In the end, Apple Valley had no defense for Okafor’s powerful dunks and a series of alley-oops down the stretch sealed the deal. The Apple Valley (MN) coach even remarked after the game that Jones and Okafor were “perfect” for each other, so you can bet the alley-oops will be a plenty in Durham next season. In the meantime, the state title watch will continue for both of these young players; Jones captured one last season in Minnesota, but Okafor’s campaign was ended last season by possibly future teammate Jabari Parker.
Keep an eye out later for a piece on the Whitney Young (IL) center and what he thought of the action on Thursday night.
