WWE TLC 2014 Prediction: Seth Rollins Will Steal the Show

TLC 2014

@WWE

The build for TLC 2014 hasn’t been the greatest. With only three weeks to work with and the Slammy Awards acting as the go-home show, WWE officials are clearly counting on a strong card filled with gimmick matches to sell itself.

When you really think about it, TLC is an event that should sell itself. It’s the PPV right before the Holidays and Rumble, so it’s only going to get so much attention and promotion. People are going to tune in because they want to see good old fashioned pro wrestling violence. Along the way, it’s up to the performers to make the event memorable.

If you remember back a couple of years, it was The Shield who tore the house down at TLC 2012 in its first ever WWE match. All three men haven’t looked back since that night in Brooklyn. But two years later, it’s Seth Rollins who will be headlining TLC 2014 against John Cena.

Sure, things might be different if Roman Reigns weren’t on the shelf. But so what? He’s not back in the ring yet, so it doesn’t really matter what could have been. Rollins, who is clearly not the original chosen one, has absolutely maximized his opportunity with his former comrade out of action.

Frankly, there’s no better man for the main event spot against Cena. Rollins is the company’s top heel, and he just keeps building momentum each week. You can see him growing as a performer on the mic, his in-ring work continues to be top-notch and he truly believes he’s the best in the business (a necessary ingredient in the formula to make it to the top).

The truth is, he’s more over with the crowd as a whole than Dean Ambrose. While Ambrose is beloved by some, he still isn’t connecting with the masses on a consistent basis. There’s work to be done with the Lunatic Fringe’s edgy babyface character. (Perhaps a good start would be getting rid of that stupid moniker.)

All of the former Shield members still have a long way to go, but Rollins is the closest to the top at this point in time.

It’s also worth noting that during his interview on Raw, Cena mentioned that Rollins would not take kindly to Steve Austin’s calling out of the WWE locker room. It’s with that chip on his shoulder, and the chips via people thinking he was the third wheel of The Shield, that Rollins is going to tear the house down this Sunday night in Cleveland. When it’s all said and done, win or lose, wrestling fans will remember the performance of Seth Rollins in the main event.
