Seattle Sounders: Clint Dempsey Makes Triumphant MLS Return

Clint Dempsey, 30, has left the Premier League to make a shock return to the MLS. He leaves Tottenham Hotspur to return where his career started, probably to play out his remaining years and to win one or two championships.

Was it too early? Maybe. Was it the right decision, though? Absolutely.

Seattle is a city that has been falling in love with soccer more and more as each season progresses. The team still has not won an MLS league title, but with the reinforcements they had made last season and this one — Eddie Johnson and Obafemi Martins — to strengthen their striking power was only just the beginning. Now, Deuce (Dempsey) comes in to add European experience and perhaps the final drive to win for themselves and their beloved fans and organization.

The MLS is a league that knows how to excite fans in certain cities by marketing, promoting and building the right stadium. Qwest Field in Seattle is arguably the most wonderful place to visit or even play a game of soccer in. This is another reason why Dempsey agreed to rejoin this league in what is considered the most exciting team in the entire league.

The most intriguing part of his arrival is the fact that he may actually line up right next to Martins to form the most formidable striking duo in the MLS today. These are two guys that easily play for one of the better teams in Europe, but joining Seattle is in no way a step down as this team is years ahead of others when it comes to attracting fans and playing in a large stadium. The man made one of the best decisions of his career.
