Hamsik

Many players have come and gone from Italian side Napoli, but Slovakian International Marek Hamsik has been committed to the cause and has had tremendous success.

Hamsik came to Napoli from Italian side Brescia for €5.5 mililion in 2007, and has been on the rise ever since. A consummate professional, Hamsik is also the captain for his country and has 67 appearances with 11 goals. Hamsik is a complete attacking midfielder who scores big goals, and is always at the heart of Napoli’s creative genius. The catalyst for Napoli’s success, Hamsik has amassed 74 goals and 58 assists in 264 appearances for the Italian side.

With the departure of Uryguan International Edinson Cavani and Argentine International Ezequiel Lavezzi both to French giants Paris Saint-German over the past two seasons, it has been up to Hamsik to provide a spark for the club.

New manager Rafa Benetiz has supplied Hamsik with some reinforcements bringing in Gonzalo Higuian, Jose Callejon and Raul Albiol over from Spanish giants Real Madird. He also brought in Dries Mertens, a Belgian international, to boast attacking options.

More players will come and go, but Hamsik seems as if he will remain. Every big club in the world has tried to sign the talented Slovakian to no avail as he has displayed his loyalty to Napoli year in year out. Benetiz was questioned about what offer would it take to sell Hamsik and he said “what Gareth Bale was purchased for by Real Madrid?”.

Although I don’t agree with the price tag of Bale, I definitely think Hamsik is every bit as talented as Bale and probably has a bigger overall effect on outcomes of games. Napoli has become a force to be reckoned with in the Serie A and the Champions League as of late, and that is a direct correlation of Hamsik being a part of Napoli and providing consistency in the middle of the pitch.
