I think if you were a West Brom fan, then the one thing you would have wanted over Christmas was a new manager installed. Then with a clear vision you can assess which way the club was going. Currently, the side are in limbo and haven’t won in the last nine games, including a 2-1 defeat against tomorrows opponents, Newcastle, in November.
West Brom were having trouble scoring goals, something they rectified somewhat on Saturday, although the defense is still suspect. Nicolas Anelka scored a brace for the Baggies, but instead of talking about his return to form, we were left talking about an alleged offensive gesture made after the first of his two goals.
The outrage began in his home country of France with various political leaders stating it was disgusting. With the French contingent in the Newcastle ranks and Anelka still available for selection for the game, it will be interesting to see if he gets any special attention.
Newcastle have been going well over the month of December and were unlucky not to increase their unbeaten run at home to Arsenal this past weekend.
Alan Pardew has an almost fully fit squad and with the two sides current forms, he would be expecting nothing short of another three points. If they manage to get that win, then I think Mike Ashley‘s door will be getting a knock soon with a request to strengthen the squad as they push for European football.
