Latest Arsenal Tansfer Rumors Linking Them To La Liga Wingers
Even before the news of Theo Walcott going down with a knee ligament injury that would see him miss the rest of the season, it has been stated and emphasized by many, with yours truly among those stating that Arsene Wenger and Arsenal needed to bolster its attack primarily upfront in the forward position. If the latest rumors are to be believed, then it appears that Wenger will opt to bring in a winger who is currently playing in La Liga.
In specific, the latest rumors state that Arsenal are either in pursuit or have tabled a bid for Angel Di Maria, who currently is with Real Madrid, and Antoine Griezmann of Real Sociedad. Di Maria has been rumored to be leaving Real Madrid for quite some time with him going to Ligue 1 side AS Monaco several weeks back, but with his gesture as he was substituted for in Real Madrid’s Copa Del Rey win on Thursday, rumors of his exit have only intensified. According to the rumors, if Real Madrid are able to execute to bring in Juan Mata from Chelsea, this would open the door for Di Maria to be moved to Arsenal, a transfer which would mirror what was seen as Mesut Ozil joined Arsenal at the end of the last summer transfer window.
As far as the Griezmann to Arsenal rumors are concerned, it has been reported that Arsenal have already tabled a £12 million bid for the French winger, but Real Sociedad are holding out for something around £20 million and upward. Given that situation at hand, it appears that Arsenal are more likely to sign and acquire Di Maria as opposed to Griezmann, but does that mean that Di Maria would be a better fit with Arsenal as opposed to Griezmann? The answer to this question is they would both fill similar needs.
It is clear that Wenger is going to stick with not bringing in a forward and will rely on Olivier Giroud being rejuvenated from his recent rest while also waiting for Nicklas Bendtner to return in three weeks time with Lukas Podolski filling in and able to play as a central forward if needed. With this being the case, both Di Maria and Griezmann would be able to come in and slot in as wingers while filling Walcott’s absence. The one aspect if their game’s that Griezmann can be said to have an edge over is the fact that like Walcott, Griezmann can play as a forward.
In a period where there is much speculation about player movement and changing clubs, Arsenal find themselves in the center of talk surrounding two of La Liga’s best players here during the January transfer window. Whether it be Di Maria or Griezmann, Arsenal would be adding another quality attacking player to help with the second half push toward winning the Premier League.
