New York Red Bulls Have the Ability to Beat DC United
The matches for the MLS conference semifinals are set. On Thursday, the New York Red Bulls took on the reigning MLS Cup champions Sporting Kansas City, and the Red Bulls came out as the well deserved victors of the match. It was quite an action-packed match that soccer fans regretted to miss. Unlike the match between FC Dallas and the Vancouver Whitecaps, the Red Bulls truly earned their victory and their chance to continue fighting for the MLS Cup.
If there was one thing to learn from the Red Bulls’ defeat of Sporting, it is that they are in it to win it. They have all the goal power they need between Bradley Wright-Phillips, Thierry Henry and Tim Cahill. These are the players who have been scoring goals all year long, and the ones the club will look to when playing the top clubs in the league during the playoffs. Wright-Phillips has been with the club for two years, but he was truly the breakout striker of the season for the Red Bulls after scoring 27 goals in the regular season this year. That talent will be needed for the Red Bulls in the remainder of the playoffs.
The Red Bulls will now face DC United in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. DCU led the Eastern Conference table at the end of the season, but with the way the Red Bulls have been playing, it is still either team’s match. Although DCU topped the eastern conference table, they tied their last regular season match against the Montreal Impact, who were in last place in the entire league. Of course, it was a no-pressure match, because DCU knew they were playoff bound, but a draw against Impact is one that felt like a loss.
Both clubs have the potential to win the Eastern Conference semifinals and head on to the Eastern Conference championship. It should be a great series.
