Western Conference Championship May Be DeAndre Yedlin’s Last MLS Match

DeAndre Yedlin Tottenham Hotspurs Seattle Sounders

Matthew Emmons – USA TODAY Sports

Over the summer, DeAndre Yedlin gained a lot of exposure after his World Cup run with the U.S. National Team. Jurgen Klinsmann received a lot of praise for his work with the USMNT, and one of his best call-ups was Yedlin. His skill on the pitch in Brazil picked up a lot of interest, and not too long after that the rumors of international trades began. The rumors ended in August when it was announced that the Premier League‘s Tottenham Hotspur would be the lucky club to have Yedlin. However, Tottenham decided that Yedlin would remain with the Seattle Sounders, on loan, for the time being.

Well, unluckily for the Sounders, it has been reported that Tottenham will be asking for Yedlin’s arrival during the mid-season transfer window in January. This is well after the MLS season, but Sounders fans were hoping to hold on to this defensive talent a little longer. Yedlin was a product of the Sounders academy and a homegrown player signing. It won’t be easy to adjust to a lineup without Yedlin, but the Sounders will recover quickly. They still have a lot of defensive – and offensive – talent on their squad.

This Sunday is the second leg of the Western Conference Championship against the Los Angeles Galaxy, and it may just be Yedlin’s final match with the Sounders and even in MLS. The Galaxy are currently up a point and kept the Sounders from scoring at their home, which does give them an extra boost. The match could still go either way still, and it would be quite a way for Yedlin to go out with the Sounders completing the treble. However, Galaxy will not let Seattle win too easily, especially when they are hoping to give veteran Landon Donovan his one last championship before retiring.

Regardless of where Yedlin is playing in January, this Sunday’s matchup between the Sounders and Galaxy is bound to be a good one.
