Most would say that Cristiano Ronaldo is at the pinnacle of his career. Aside from a World Cup victory, he has just about everything. Ronaldo plays for one of the biggest teams in Europe, Real Madrid. He has a Champions League title and they are on to the knockout rounds again this year. Of course, anything goes in a rivalry clash against Atletico Madrid and one ball boy doesn’t care much about Ronaldo.
Atletico went on to a 4-0 victory. Coach Carlo Ancelloti called the derby beatdown the worse loss under his watch at Real Madrid. It was Ronaldo’s return to the lineup after the Ballon d’Or winner served a two-match suspension. The superstar was not enough to overcome a dominant performance from the rival. Saul scored a highlight reel goal to push Atletico’s unbeaten streak against Real Madrid to six.
However, it was the ball boy that put the finishing touches on the match. As a ball was hit out of play, one of the ball boys gestured that he did not have another ball to restart play. Ronaldo approached the other ball boy on the sideline, only to have him toss the ball nowhere near the superstar. The sideline assistant showed his thug side by staring Ronaldo down when he threw the ball down the sideline then stood stoically as Ronaldo looked dejected.
After the match, Ronaldo tried to shut down a reporter that brought up something from the past. It did not go as well as he had hoped. It was not a good weekend for Ronaldo, who had hoped to show that the suspension did not impact him.
Better luck next time Cristiano. Just try to avoid the ball boy next time.
