The third quarter of the NFC Championship game between the Seattle Seahawks and Green Bay Packers did not start out much better than the first half for the defending Super Bowl champions. In desperate need of a touchdown, it appeared as though the Packers managed to hold Russell Wilson and the Seahawks offense to a field goal.
Trailing 16-0 late in the third quarter, Seattle Head Coach Pete Carroll decided it was time to gamble and called for a fake field goal. The risky decision worked brilliantly for the Seahawks as punter Jon Ryan delivered a perfectly-thrown touchdown pass on the run to rookie offensive lineman Garry Gilliam.
