The Bears have Acquired Brandon Marshall

RANT It!

Right when the clock hit 3 p.m. central (start of free agency), the Bears acquired their number 1 receiver Brandon Marshall. Jay Glazer was the first to report the trade and says the Bears will send the Miami Dolphins 2 3rd round draft picks. 1 3rd round pick in this years draft and 1 in next year’s draft. At first glance, I thought the 2 3rd picks would have been in this year’s draft as the Bears have 2 3rd’s.

It’s nice to say the Bears actually have a number 1 receiver. The Bears by far won this trade by only trading away 2 3rd round picks for a 27 year-old pro bowler. Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall reunite. Earlier in the year, Cutler and Marshall were talking about playing with each other and Phil Emery made it happen. Cutler is a very happy man … he’s getting married, having a child, reunited with his old QB coach Jeremy Bates and now his old WR Brandon Marshall.

Brandon Marshall made his name in Denver where him and Cutler were an awesome QB/WR combo. Marshall was drafted in the 4th round of the 2006 draft by the Denver Broncos. Marshall played in Denver for 4 seasons, until he was traded to the Miami Dolphins on April 14th, 2010.

In 2011, Marshall played all 16 games … he had 1,214 yards and 6 touchdowns. Marshall also had 1 fumble.

The Bears have had players chimed in on the acquisition of Brandon Marshall … Matt Forte said “bout time bro…welcome home lol”, Robbie Gould said “welcome to the Bear family…Super Bowl or bust”, Lance Briggs said “today is a good day..great for us!!!”, and Brian Urlacher said ” I think he’s gonna be a great weapon for Jay and the offense. It’s cool that he and Jay played together in Denver.”.

Also, Brandon Marshall will where number 15 as a Chicago Bear.

So … it’s official, Phil Emery is already better than Jerry Angelo. What a nice first day for the new GM.
