Rondo Unaffected By Rumors
Matthew Emmons-US PRESSWIRE

With constant chatter swirling around the Celtics as the trade deadline nears, star Point Guard, Rajon Rondo is not bothered by the regular mention of his name. In fact, as his inclusion with the team hangs in the balance, Rondo has stepped his game up to whole other level.

The heightened play of the sixth-year guard out of Kentucky, has only served to make him even more desirable for inquiring teams, while at the same time forcing the Celtics to think long and hard about letting him go. Rondo has recorded two triple-doubles in his past six games, and is currently ranked second in the NBA for assists per game. And while all the other Celtics stars begin to fade, Rondo has only picked up the slack even more, twice scoring 30-plus in that same six game span. Yet, for all his talent and youthful leadership, the young guard continues to be mentioned as a player potentially on the move.

Rumors have recently surfaced involving his imminent trade to teams like Los Angeles, Orlando and Atlanta, yet with each passing day, Rondo remains a Celtic, and arguably the best one that they have. In an interview with the Boston Globe, he responded to these rumors, stating that he understands that it’s part of the business, and that he’s just having happy to be playing basketball.

“When I’m on the court, I’m just focused on winning and having fun while I’m doing it.”  Said Rondo.

Whether or not he gets traded, remains to be seen, but unless it happens in a deal to acquire Dwight Howard, the player swap will almost certainly be a mistake. Rondo is the sole, youthful talent that the team has to offer, and without him they will likely fall to ruins. I really cannot understand why Danny Ainge is even entertaining the idea of parting with his star point guard, but the General Manager seems intent on hurrying the demise of the once great, Boston Celtics.

UPDATE 3/4/12: Rajon Rondo has just recorded yet another triple-double against the New York Knicks. Registering 18 points/17 rebounds/20 assists in the overtime victory. With this performance, he became just the third player in NBA history to record 15/20/15 in a game, the other two players to achieve this feat were Wilt Chamberlain and Oscar Robertson.
