In the Southeastern Conference or SEC as it is affectionately known in the south, fans take their football seriously. To the average SEC fan, their teams are a symbol of pride that goes deeper than just a football team. Its where generations of family members graduated and attend school. Its a place where lovers shared their first kiss or got engaged. The SEC is a place of tradition.

In the case of some fans, it goes a step further. People become fanatics and mold their fan-hood into a lifestyle that consumes them. For example, the Alabama fan that poisoned the sacred Toomer’s Oaks at Auburn University. It was a classless act but to a devote fan, it did not seem to extreme.

While Alabama fan Zack Smartt is not in that class,  his recent act may have moved him into the large group of fanatic Alabama fans.

Smartt recently spent a whopping 1700 on a tattoo of an elephant depicting his love for the school (pictured above). The back illustration took 10.5 hours that was spread out over three sessions. The first session took four hours, the second took five hours, and the last session took one and half years.

“Roll Tide isn’t a slogan, motto, or war cry… it’s a way of life!  ROLL TIDE FOR LIFE!!,” Zack told Busted Coverage.

In a conference that is full of fanatics, Smartt fits in perfectly. However, he has company in the SEC fanatic tattoo department.

An Arkansas fan recently posted a picture of his less than glorious depiction of a rabid razorback that he got on his back. The color is faded and the design leaves much to be desired.

In regards to a battle of tattoos, the Crimson Tide once again beat the Razorbacks.

In the SEC, acts of true fan-hood are shown everyday. People paint their team’s logo in their yard, they get married at tailgates, and paint their head with their team’s logo. Zack Smartt put himself in this class with his tattoo. He truly loves himself some Alabama football and that’s now obvious.
