Washington Redskins Rumors: Jay Cutler Trade Could Be Answer

The Chicago Bears have a problem and his name is Jay Cutler. The quarterback is being paid way too much money to be incapable of leading the Bears to more than one playoff victory. Everyone in Chicago knows the Bears have to get rid of him, but the problem is no one is going to want to take on his ridiculous salary. That is where owner Dan Snyder and the Washington Redskins step in.

Washington has a massive problem at quarterback. In fact, I cannot think of a team in a worse position than them in that regard. Robert Griffin III is about as big of a bust as they come, and yes, I am aware that he does have an Offensive Rookie of the Year on his résumé. His mechanics are horrible, he cannot read the field properly and he has completely lost the support of his teammates and coaching staff. More importantly, head coach Jay Gruden wants nothing to do with him.

Snyder and general manager Bruce Allen hired the former Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator to straighten up Griffin. Unfortunately, Gruden saw right away in training camp and the preseason that the former first-round draft pick is a shell of his 2012 self. Still, Gruden attempted to work with him because that is what the organization wanted from him. However, a 3-9 record with no possibility of winning in sight has changed the landscape in Washington.

At this point, Snyder must give in to Gruden’s demands, which is give him a quarterback that he can win with. One player in particular that Gruden would gladly accept is Cutler, who definitely needs a change of scenery after Chicago’s 2014 debacle. The Bears will have to overhaul certain areas of the organization, including general manager and head coach. Along with that, if an opportunity presents itself to get rid of Cutler in a trade, they must jump at it.

Obviously, the Bears are not going to accept Griffin for Cutler straight up. Still, it would not take much for a deal to work, especially when the Redskins would be required to take on the signal caller’s complete salary. I understand some fans in the Windy City may not be happy about the idea of trading Cutler because it means the team would have to go into rebuild mode at the quarterback position. With that said, Cutler clearly is not the answer, which is evident of his inability to consistently win despite having a stellar offensive arsenal at his disposal.

If Cutler is so bad, Redskins fans may question why the team should trade for him. A possible explanation is Cutler is not a terrible quarterback, but rather, placed in the wrong system. The intellectual offensive mind of Gruden could be the answer of unlocking Cutler’s true potential, something the Bears have never been able to accomplish.

The Redskins have no choice but to make an exciting move in the offseason that could make them believe they have a shot of winning more than three games in 2015. Even if Cutler is quite the gamble, it is a trade Snyder and Allen need to pull the trigger on.
