Rob Brown is a Kingston, Ontario, Canadian-born hockey player who was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1986 NHL Entry Draft (67th overall pick). Brown played for a total of nine different teams in his entire professional career from 1987 through 2003 (AHL, IHL, NHL) and was in the NHL for a total of 11 years (1987-2000).

He became a popular / well-known player for two reasons: (1) playing alongside Mario Lemieux and (2) a fight during his time with the Chicago Blackhawks between him and Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman, Sylvain Lefebvre, in which a Leafs catchphrase, “Down goes Brown,” was born.

2010

Atlanta Thrasher‘s Johan Hedberg stopped 33 shots to shutout the Pittsburgh Penguins and became the fifth goaltender to record a shutout with the Penguins and also shut out the Pens while playing for another team; the four other goalies are: Ty Conklin (Detroit Red Wings), Tom Barrasso (Carolina Hurricanes), Patrick Lalime (Ottawa Senators) and Jocelyn Thibault (Chicago Blackhawks)

1993

the Pens extended the NHL winning streak record to 17 games with a 4-2 win over the New York Rangers

1992

The 1992 NHL Strike – ended after ten days; this was the first strike initiated by the players (NHLPA) against the owners (NHL) and it ultimately changed the relationship between them; changes included the players earning a large increase in playoff bonuses, increased control over the licensing of their likenesses, and changes to the free agency system; and the season was expanded to 84 games and included provisions for each team to play two games per season in non-NHL cities (according to Wikipedia)

the Pens defeated the St. Louis Blues, 5-3, and swept the preliminary round of the playoffs
