NFL Moves 2012 Season Opener to Avoid Conflict With Obama Speech

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced that the 2012 season opener has been moved up a day to Wednesday September 5 in order to avoid a conflict with President Obama’s speech the next night at the Democratic National Convention.

Obama is scheduled to speak Thursday night at the DNC, which is being held in Charlotte North Carolina.

The Super Bowl champion New York Giants will host the season opener at Met Life Stadium against a team yet to be determined. It has become tradition for the Super Bowl champs to open the next NFL season as the first game to honor their achievement from the previous year.

It’s good to see that the commissioner has his priorities in order and is showing respect for the President and his speech. If Goodell kept the game on that Thursday night it would be expected that the majority of America would watch football instead of a political speech.

Good move Mr. Goodell.
