2013-14 Week 5 College Football and NFL Picks

Week 5 betting picks

Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

Last weekend’s NCAA Football action was forgettable in some ways given that there were many blowouts, in particular a few games between top-15 teams playing FCS teams whom they essentially paid for practice.

In the NFL, we had a fairly quiet week with a few surprise results with the Indianapolis Colts not only covering a +10 spread, but winning outright over the San Francisco 49ers, and the Carolina Panthers beating the New York Giants so badly that many questioned if the Giants quit on their coach Tom Coughlin.

Outside of NCAA Football and NFL action, we have a couple of very intriguing soccer games to be played on Saturday as in the Premier League, Tottenham hosts Chelsea in the early game while in Spain, the latest edition of the Derbi Madrileno will be played between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid in what promises to be the most even derby match in the last 15-16 years.

As far as my picks last week go, I again had a mixed bag of results. While I went 4-1 in my straight up picks with the New York Giants being my lone loss, I went 2-3 in my against the spread (ATS) picks with Georgia Tech and the Detroit Lions being the two that worked out. In addition, I hit on two of my three bonus picks to make it a weekend where I came out even in terms of my predictions.

So far through four weeks, my overall record is 17-3 in my straight up picks and 9-10-1 in my ATS picks. There are definitely some marquee college and NFL games to be played this weekend, so there is no excuse for not feeling excited for the upcoming slate of games.

As always, these picks are for entertainment purposes. All the lines for the ATS picks are courtesy of Covers.com, and all the lines for the bonus picks are courtesy of Bovada.lv.

Bonus Picks: In Saturday’s Premier League game between Tottenham and Chelsea, take Chelsea to win at +170. In Saturday’s La Liga game between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, take the under of three goals being scored at +105. Finally in Boxing action to held on Saturday, take the over at +105 of 7.5 rounds being fought in the Light Heavyweight bout between Adonis Stevenson and Tavoris Cloud.
