15 Professional Athletes Who Clearly Hate Working Out

By Jason Fletcher

The life of a professional athlete is full of games, practices, watching film and for most, working out. For other players, the working out part requires too much effort, as they seem content being overweight. Here are 15 professional athletes who choose comfort food over exercise.

15. Roy Nelson

"Big Country" loves him some Burger King and beer. Nelson takes the redneck label to the extreme, as he looks like a mountain man with his beard. Don't let his goofy look fool you, though, as he has seven wins inside the UFC's octagon.

Wight was born with acromegaly, which is a disease of the endocrine system. It's the same disease that Andre The Giant had that caused both guys to be abnormally large.

13. Prince Fielder

Either Fielder got some bad genes from his dad, Cecil, or his unwillingness to work out because both are big boys. I do have to say that Prince is extremely athletic for a 275-pound human being.

12. Jonathan Broxton

Broxton looks to be built like an offensive lineman or defensive tackle. He stands at 6-foot-4, 310 pounds, and it seems he likes some good Southern cooking, as he's from Georgia.

11. John Daly

Daly loves to smoke cigars, get drunk and gamble. Every once in a while he's able to put together a good round of golf. I do give him credit for dropping from 280 to 215 pounds after lap band surgery in 2009.

10. Glen Davis

While Davis is listed at 6-foot-9, he's probably closer to 6-foot-6 or 6-foot-7, which makes the 290 pounds he carries around less proportionate. The fact that he hasn't had more knee problems is a minor miracle.

9. Sebastian Janikowski

Blessed with one of the strongest kicking legs in the NFL, Janikowski apparently does leg day but no cardio at the gym. I'll never forget Al Davis selecting Janikowski with his first-round pick in the 2000 NFL Draft. Not only do kickers never get drafted that high, but the fact that Janikowski is a 250-pound kicker was the icing on top.

8. Vince Wilfork

There are a number of former offensive and defensive tackles who have lost a ton of weight after retiring from the NFL. For some reason, I don't expect Wilfork to continue that trend. His body looks like it's meant to be 350 pounds.

7. JaMarcus Russell

What a waste of talent Russell has been. He had all the physical tools to be a great NFL quarterback, but he didn't have any drive to make that happen. He didn't like to work out, practice or do anything at all. His lone passion was that "purple drank."

6. David Ortiz

It's good that Ortiz was able to get away with taking steroids for most of his career because he certainly doesn't seem interested in actually working hard. He refuses to ever run full-speed, and is shows pure laziness when he plays the field. Hopefully, he's given a portion of his salary to the guys who introduced him to those steroids.

5. Adebayo Akinfenwa

Akinfenwa recently said he would "snooze" Diego Costa for his on-field actions. At 231 pounds, someone please figure out a way to let "The Beast" teach Costa a lesson.

4. C.C. Sabathia

Sabathia is pushing 300 pounds, and his body is finally giving out on him at 35. I'll never forget a few years ago when he said he lost 25 pounds by cutting out Captain Crunch. He must've been eating it by the box.

3. Bartolo Colon

It's amazing Colon has pitched into his 40s, effectively carrying 265 pounds of fat on his 5-foot-11 frame. Most guys would have serious knee or other health problems, and would've been required to retire by now. Then again, not everyone is Bartolo Colon.

2. Pablo Sandoval

Sandoval has always been overweight, but this season he came to spring training in terrible shape. He since then had the worst season of his career and is having issues with his conditioning once again. Think the Red Sox regret giving him that massive contract?

320-pound quarterbacks don't just grow on trees. In fact, Jared Lorenzen is that only one I know, which makes him a rare breed or something like that.
