New York Knicks Sensation Jeremy Lin Breaks Shaquille O’Neal NBA Record, Among Others
Brace Hemmelgarn-US PRESSWIRE

With the clock winding down and the scored tied 87-87, the New York Knicks put the ball in the hands of their best player to win the game. With 0.5 seconds left on the clock, point guard Jeremy Lin sunk a dramatic three-pointer to seal the game against the Toronto Raptors. The crowd was so loud after the shot fell that people just tuning in might have thought the game was being played at Madison Square Garden.

“I just wanted to make sure I got a good shot at the end of the clock,” Lin said. “We had so many active hands. Everybody with deflections, rebounds and we clamped it down.”

There is no doubt Lin is the hottest player in sports right now. “Linsanity” has taken over the nation similar to what “Tebowmania” did late last year. The NBA’s first Asian-American is taking the game by storm and is showing no signs of letting up. The latest proof of that is the recent NBA record he broke that stood for 20 years.

Lin’s 27 points against the Raptors Tuesday night was easily enough to pass Shaquille O’Neal for the most points scored in the first five starts of a career. Shaq’s long standing record of 129 points was no match for Lin’s 136.

Lin previously broke the NBA record for most points scored in the first three starts of career when he scored a combined 89 points against the Utah Jazz, Washington Wizards and Los Angeles Lakers. He is also the first player in NBA history with at least 20 points and seven assists in his first four starts.

Another interesting fact about Lin is his jersey is the NBA’s top online seller since Feb. 4 which is the same day he scored 25 points in 36 minutes off the bench against the New Jersey Nets.

This is by far one of the most remarkable sports stories in recent memory. Just when you think he might slow down he nails a game-winner with confidence. Anyone who thinks this kid is a fluke or simply does not have what it takes is crazy. Think about this, before Lin saw action against the Nets, New York lost 11 of their last 13 games. Since then the Knicks have won six straight and look like a team with no intentions of slowing down.

In the last six games, Lin is averaging 26.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, 8.5 assists and 1.8 steals per game while shooting 51.7 percent from the field in 39.6 minutes.
