New Orleans Saints: 5 Fantasy Football Targets

Saints
Chuck Cook-USA TODAY Sports

The New Orleans Saints have one of the best offenses in the NFL. Since 2006, the Saints have led the league in total offense four times. In the three years in that span they did not finish on top, the Saints finished 4th, 6th and 2nd respectively. They are undoubtedly one of the best offensive teams in the NFL, and their team is filled with stars of fantasy football year in and year out. The 2013 season will be no exception.

Last season, the Saints were without head coach Sean Payton, who was suspended because of the bounty scandal. Payton is one of the best offensive minds in the game, and his return is huge for the fantasy values of Saints players. I think that Payton will be back with a vengeance in 2013. He will want to showcase his elite offense and I think this leads to many high scoring games put up by the Saints.

New Orleans is in an interesting situation. While quarterback Drew Brees is certainly still among the best signal callers in the league, he is not getting any younger. In such a tough division with elite young QBs like Cam Newton and Matt Ryan, the window may be closing on Brees and the Saints sooner than expected. I think they will still be competitive, but I wonder how many more chances they are going to have to win another Super Bowl.

A talented arsenal of weapons plus an elite and motivated coach equals huge fantasy potential for the Saints in 2013. The Saints are still an elite offense that will surely throw the ball a ton. They know that they must make this season count, and I think that they will do so. This team has arguably the most collective offensive talent in the league and they are definitely motivated. Here are 5 players for New Orleans that I will be targeting in fantasy football drafts.

Drew Brees, QB

Brees
Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

Brees is my top ranked fantasy football quarterback for the 2013 season. He had another outstanding season in 2012 even without Payton there to call the plays. Brees was the highest scoring fantasy QB in 2012. With Payton back, I think that there is potential for even bigger numbers out of Brees. He is an elite fantasy passer and I do not think that changes this season.

Marques Colston, WR

Colston

Marques Colston is the number one wide receiver for the Saints. He is a big, physical target for Brees. Colston is a nice receiver to target in the middle rounds of your fantasy draft. He is a little inconsistent at times, but Colston is a guy that should get a ton of targets in an elite offense.

Jimmy Graham, TE

Graham

With Rob Gronkowski struggling with injuries, Jimmy Graham is now the unquestioned top tight end in fantasy football. Graham is Brees' number one target, and I think that Payton will try to make him one of the focal points of the offense. You will have to take Graham early, but he gives you a huge advantage at the tight end position.

Lance Moore, WR

Moore
Kirby Lee - USA TODAY Sports

Lance Moore is a nice, consistent wide receiver that you can get later in your draft. He has always been a top target of Brees. Moore has always caught a lot of passes, and he gets into the end zone a fair amount of times. Moore is a good late round option, especially in PPR leagues.

Darren Sproles, RB

Sproles

Speaking of PPR leagues, here is the king. Darren Sproles is a wide receiver in a running back's body. He is a guy that is puts up consistent production, mostly through receptions but not entirely. Also, Sproles is a much better standard fantasy player than he is normally thought of. Sproles is a guy that I am targeting in all leagues, PPR or not.
