2013 Fantasy Baseball: Add OF Alfonso Soriano Off Waivers

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

When the New York Yankees traded for OF Alfonso Soriano of the Chicago Cubs, everyone expected the veteran bat to finish the season strong. However, no one expected him to get this hot, this quick.

On Tuesday night, Soriano exploded offensively. He finished the game 3-for-6 with two home runs, one single, three runs, and six RBIs. New York won the game 14-7 over the Los Angeles Angels, but Soriano’s big performance was certainly the major story of the day. Needless to say, the outfielder caught the attention of more than couple fantasy owners.

Since joining the team, Soriano has been the spark they have been looking for. Now couple the outfielder with the resurgent (and suspended) 3B Alex Rodriguez and the team’s offense looks like it is coming to life.

Soriano is currently batting in the two-spot for the Bronx Bombers, which leaves him pretty well protected with All-Star 2B,  Robinson Cano, hitting behind him. All Soriano has to do is get on base and he has a pretty good chance of having Cano drive him home.

Soriano has proven that he can once again be a reliable fantasy outfielder. He isn’t worth a spot as a top outfielder, but the 37-year-old can certainly carry his weight as a third outfielder moving forward. If Soriano is out there in your eight-man league, it is time to add the veteran slugger.
